Thanks a lot about your explanation, so according to your explanation, “excel”is the correct one, is it ? and the answer says “outweight”is correct, so I think the answer must be wrong, is it?fficeffice" />

I think you pointed out a big problem in my English study, and I think that is a prevalent problem in most students’ English study: study English by thinking in Chinese. Now I’m prepared in post-graduate entrance examination, and the biggest problem may be the writing. I know how to improve my ability in other aspects , such as reading part, translation part, but I don’t know how to improve the writing ability. Though I coulddo many writing exercises , no one could point out my faults, so that kind of exercises is no use to me.Can you give me any advices about this?

Thanks very much for your suggestion. The problem I met is that I cannot find “a good course book at writing in English” as you said. The books I could find at the bookshop is alaways one typeive you many models , ask you to recite , and the models are very common sentences, I don’t think that kind of books are effentive. Could you recommend some good books about writing in English? Another question is how to immitate, the only way I can work out is rememberthe good sentences. Is it? I am sorry to bother you with such shallow questions, but I need your help, thanks again.fficeffice" />

Re:To Limagee

As far as you can remember good sentences, that will be very good. In writing test you can use others' original sentences without the issue of copyright
I can recommend a good course book to you. At home,《大学英语写作》by Nanjing University Press is a very good one. It's a writing course book telling you how to learn to write step by step. I hope this book will be help to you.

Waiting for answer……

Re:To Limagee

Sorry for the delay, for I have been in Beijing for several days.
About the two words of 'outweigh' and 'excel', I've just given you the differences between. Actually as I have no ideas of the context the words are really in, I don't understand the sentence very well. So I gave you the hint and for you to tell which is correct.

As for how to improve your writing ability, I think there are many ways. First. you must read GOOD English. If the English you read is not idiomatic, then your English writing cannot  be improved. This is always true. The second important is to immitate. If you cannot write original good English at the beginning, at least you can immitate. And you may probably need a good course book at writing in English. I don't think it matters much whether there is someone who will correct your writing mistakes. You can proofread your own work, immitate, compare and improve.

That's all that I can suggest.
