约翰．丹佛原名小亨利·约翰·得奇道夫，1943年出生于美国新墨西哥州。John Denver并非他的本名，而是取自他钟爱的城市科罗拉多州首府丹佛市。1997年10月12日下午5时30分左右，这位欧美音乐界口碑最好的民谣歌手驾驶双座小型飞机飞向他曾歌唱过无数次的美国南方天空，飞向蒙特雷海湾。然而，这一回他再也没有回来。他的去世引起从总统克林顿到普通老百姓的巨大悲恸。
“高高的落基山（Rocky Mountain High）”是约翰．丹佛继“乡村路，带我回家（Take Me Home Country Roads）”后的第二首代表作。整首歌情绪激昂，一气呵成，充分体现了Denver嗓音的高亢明亮。从他的吉他声和歌词中，听众体会到一种来自内心的纯洁、平静和安宁。
