1. be of 与 be 的区别？

Most of linguistic studies are of this type.

这两个句子都用的be of，为什么不用be呢？

Provided 也可以写成providing

可以吗？我好象没见过能这样换的呀。provided作为虚拟语气的连词，似乎是固定这样写的，就像given一样。right?

我们说BE连接的是两个同位语.比如He is a student.

可statement 和scientific value.之间并不存在着逻辑的同位关系.

也就是说.HE 等于 STUDENT

而statement不能等于scientific value. 而是具不具有"科学价值"的关系.

所以我们说, the statement is a statement of no scientific value.

因此.把is of 理解成is that of. 就可以解释了.that指代statement 可以省略.

be of其实还有一种表达.我昨天在网上看到的.

解释是这样的:

BE+ OF+名词是一种典雅的表达方式，也许1）源自早期英语中名词的强势地位，2）OF介词具有属性意义。这样的用法和意义已经被现代比较通俗的使用方式所取代，也就是BE+名词同根的形容词，例如典雅的方式BE OF IMPORTANCE，现在我们说BE IMPORTANT；It will be of great help to me就等于It is very helpful. It is of no harm等于我们现在常说的It is unharmful.

en,从语感上,觉得还是provoded更贴切。不过providing也有相同的意思，（昨晚又查了几本字典），那就也应该能用，而且也的确隐约记得好象在哪见过人用的，只是次数太少，早被遗忘了，还以为是哦的幻觉呢。^O^
